Static ip address

if i reserve the ip address in the router folder sharing works fine
cancelling the reservation and entering the details into the ipv4 settings
ip address, subnet, gateway i cannot access any shared folders, but i can remote into the server

So you’re entering 192.168.0.136 on the server network card with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and a gateway (and maybe DNS server) of 192.168.0.1?

exactly that

Is the IP you're entering manually the same as the one that was issued using the DHCP reservation?

Where are you trying to connect to the shared folders from (LAN/WAN)?

What sort of server is it (Windows, Linux, etc.)?

windows w10 pro, no server specific software

And is the router the TaoTronics Mesh unit you talk about in the other thread?

it does exactly the same if its directly connected to the server with cat 5 cable via virgin router, mesh units out of the question

must be because of your beans on toast dave. Only thing stopping it might be the beans.

yes i think thats the issue ;-)

when i enter the above ip, into the server it says theres a problem and that "dhcp is not enabled for ethernet "

Nothing to do with Mesh, they are not in the network atm
it seems to be a sharing issue with named folders

this works fine if the ip is reserved in the router, but i want to have the static ip in the network of the workstation
and as soon as i have done this, i cannot see any shared folders or have the ability to create any
i can remote into the pc fine

edit, all working fine now, even on the mesh network
was a DNS issue
