Hi, upgraded my rig about a week ago now and my PSU seems to be making an electrical/static noise under high load in some games (cod4 and sims 3 are the worst offenders)

Anybody else had anything like this and is there anything i can do to solve it besides sending it back and getting a replacement?

pc specs are:

asrock p67 pro
i5 2500k @4.5ghz
corsair 4gb ddr3 1600
palit gtx 670
akasa venom 750 watt

sounds like capacitor whine from what you have described, it isnt uncommon, usually on gfx cards, but it is known that psu's can too, is the psu new? if so you could send it back under dsr (distance selling regulations) if not might be time for a new psu, hope this helps

My 6950 does this too, however its only on the minecraft menu screen, when i enter the game it stops, i have learned to ignore it, and have had it working perfectly for around year.

Its deffo not the graphics card, and my last psu had a distinct whining noise. This sounds like electric passing through two points opposed to just squealing. And yes the psu and graphics card are both new

tried disabling intel speedstep in bios? see if noise stops,it can be iether the psu or gpu,can be mb itself but the first two are most likely

I have this problem on a cheapish mainboard on one of my other systems, at first I thought it was the PSU but then after changing it and doing some tests I can only conclude that it comes from the mainboard area around the CPU. This only happens under severe load and the system doesn't suffer from any stability problems so I have learned to live with it.
