Hi all,

I was just wandering what the advantage is to having a static IP. I notice a few ISP's offer a static Ip (Some free, some at a cost)

I am your usual PC user, I play a few online games and also download with some P2P applications.

Cheers

static ip is a plus but you can get around a dynamic ip with ddns which is easier to remember anyway.

You won't see any advantage in using a static IP unless you need to dial in to your pc or have a small website running. Most ISP's will generally have a fairly long lease time for dynamic IP's.

Pro's and Cons for both.

If your not going to host anything, then it doesn't really matter.

I have one, and to be honest, never used it.

Aye, with NTL, I cannot recall the last time it changed :/ Lease time never seems to end!

IIRC its based on the MAC key of your router / firewall so it generally won't change.

I presumed it was something like that. Cheers :)
