Hello

I have a Videologic Digitheatre DTS I bought quite a number of years ago which has been fine up till recently.

It has analog, coaxial and optical inputs, connected to my Auzentech x-meridian via coaxial.

Randomly I will get crackling (static noise), popping and low pitch humming, even if I switch the input to where nothing is connected, the main speaker keeps making noise!

I can usually resolve the situation for a while (a few minutes/hours/a day depending) by turning the whole thing on and off from the mains plug (turning it off to standby doesnt tend to work).

Ive checked all connections etc all seem secure.

Any ideas on the problem? I hope its not a sign of the system on its way out as it is has been very good up till now :(

Thanks

low frequency humming could be cause by dying capacitors.Open it up and look for tubular thingy in the psu section and see if it is bulging if it is they need replacing.Capacitors is also known to fail without any visual indication if in doubt borrow an ESR meter and check it.It can also be cause by cold solder turn it on and if it is humming try to tap the unit several times harder if it needs to be and if the humming stops it is cause by cold solder remember to remove the input to make sure it is not coming from your sound card.
