hi im wanting to put some better fans in my corsair 540 case, and was wondering would i be better going for static pressure fans due to the 540 having a filter infront of the fans,i currently have corsair af 120s in,im not to fussed about noise and was thinking of either going for the Noctua industrial or the ek vardar

SP fans are designed to create pressure (durr !) to help push past objects, penetrate small spaces.

if you really believe your fan filter is causing a lack of airflow a SP fan might help slightly.

generally Sp fans make more noise (In my personal opinion) than an normal but as you mention you not bothered how loud it is then that's not really a problem.

All I would say is you might want to look at the bigger picture, If your having airflow issues/high temps I highly doubt swapping out a few fans will be a magic fix and fans are not cheap these days...

I hope that helps.

I don't think you're better off with SP to be honest, which fans do you have? The static pressure are normally being used for radiators so unless the filter is really dirty or overly fine then not sure its going to solve your problems.

Potentially get a filter which isn't as restrictive on airflow? Would be a cheaper option too.

I use SPs on my front intake, despite removing the dust mesh and only having a grille - I find they move air through the drive cages (another restriction) better, not because of the higher pressure but because teh airflow is more focussed and has a clearer path. Aiflow fans were just deflected too much.

My tuppence:

When there are drive cages/other blockage = static pressure fans

When no drive cages (front filter doesn't matter) = airflow fans

For the 540 you just want better airflow fans as stock not very good.

hi thx for replies,i currently have corsair af 120s which are starting to get a little noisey as they have served me well

i dont have a issue as far as temps go,i just wanted to get something that can perform better than the af's

take the af 120s out, clean them properly. You can take the blades off and wash them thoroughly. add a bit of silicone/grease in the center part of the fan (moving) if you think it'll help. Move it a couple times with your fingers, sounds great again.
AF/SP 's are great fans cost/performance.
Also it's very important how all the fans work, where do they push the air. Best case scenario is to have positive pressure (? pls correct me if i'm wrong). this means you have more intake than exhaust. This will help you with the airflow and dust.
It also depends where you have the case and how obstructed the fans are. In optimal conditions i'd say AF 120 are fine. 2 front + 1 back to push air IN case, and 2 top to exhaust.
The positive pressure will make sure all the extra air will gtfo of the case through the small cracks you have in the pci/back of the case.

i got 3 120s in the front pulling in and a akasa venom for exhaust, then the h100i on the top blowing out

ill give the front fans a good clean and grease em up and see how the go
