Ok, so about a year ago and 3 years before that ive had no problems with getting 2.5/3 Mbit/s. Now it's much worse and I get random disconnections throughout the day.

Currently, I struggle to hit 1.5 Mbit/s (Speedtest.net gives me 1.48) :( I'm on UKFSN/Entanet. I'm 2.58km from the exchange.

Router Sync Info:
Code:
Us Rate (Kbps) 448
Ds Rate (Kbps) 4128
US Margin 18
DS Margin 6
Trained Modulation GDMT
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 56
US Line Attenuation 31
Peak Cell Rate 1056 cells per sec
CRC Rx Fast 0
CRC Tx Fast 0
CRC Rx Interleaved 0
CRC Tx Interleaved 0
Path Mode Interleaved

BT Speed Test Results:

Code:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1282 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :4128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1500 Kbps

According to Sam Knows I cant get 2mbps but may be able to get 1mbps...

I have had >= 2.5 for a good 3 years, so why the issue (this has been a problem for at least 6 months now)

Is there anything I can do to get this line limitation reviewed (clear the IP profile maybe?)? Or am I going to be screwed for the distance future? :(

For a 4 Mb/s downstream sync the IP profile should definately be higher. As you're a long-term subscriber your IP profile may have dropped due to recent low syncs, perhaps due to bad weather, especially thunderstorms, or other significant temporary interference. If this was the case then the IP profile should have recovered quite quickly but your comment about it going on for six months might point to a stuck profile in which case you should simply 'phone UKFSN up.

I don't know how you've put up with it for that long and so whether or not you get any joy I would definately review what I've got and what alternative services are available through my exchange.

You're synced with ADSL1 modulation. With a downstream attenuation of 56 dB and 6 dB SNR your sync rate isn't too bad and it can be a toss-up whether you'd benefit from an ADSL2+ service. With respect to alternate providers however, you tend to find that LLU operators hardware don't employ these profiles so your throughput is a lot more consistent and, depending who it is, may have no traffic shaping whatsoever.

Thanks a lot, i have an overhead cable bringing the phone lines to where I am, it's been hit and cut with numerous car crashes the past year so I wonder if that had anything to do with it. I will give the support a try, to see if they can do anything, although people on here have said it's appalling so I wont hold my breath :(

It's my parents connection and luckily I only need to put up with it when im back from uni :p but it really needs sorting now.

Ok, so ive spoken to Entanet who ran tests and can see my line is dropping out but basically can't see any faults their end. They say all they can do is send a BT engineer out but if it turns out to be my fault then it's £140.

I've tried different filters, the routers running off the main socket and there are no other devices on the line.

Additionally, in the line info in my first post my sync rate is very variable, when i first reboot the router it syncs at 4mb, after 24 hours they are:

Code:
Us Rate (Kbps) 448
Ds Rate (Kbps) 2112
US Margin 17
DS Margin 7
DS Line Attenuation 56
US Line Attenuation 31

And the IP profile on BT speedtester has gone down to 1mb with an 800k speed, (Disaster!! :()

Code:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 865 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 200-1000 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :2112 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1000 Kbps

I haven't tried another router but is it really likely it would have degraded from a 3mb stable connection to a 1mb one? Is it worth me having an engineer out? *decisions* :(

Thanks for any advice.
