Like many people I ditched Vista to try the W7 RC. I've been very happy with it so far, and suffered no crashes.

However now that the real version of W7 is out I'm wondering if I should upgrade, or if I should wait until nearer the end of the RC to buy a copy of it.

It'd likely be Home Premium, as I can't see any use for the higher end versions.

Should I stay on the RC?

I have a boxed version of Home Premium sat unwrapped because the RC will do me fine until it expires. However, you might want to actually buy a copy now while there are various promotional offers on.

i'm in exactly the same situation as theheyes (well, i'm going to put Pro on mine)

my laptop, on the otherhand, was purchased after the RTM was released, so that's been running the full version (also Professional) since the day i got it.

Incase you were wondering, i need Pro for XP mode because a few of my work-programs are XP-only.

I honestly can not understand the logic behind staying on the RC if you have a retail copy at hand.

Ah, I thought they had finished. Cheapest I can find is the OcUK price for full retail. I can find a slightly cheaper upgrade, but I'd rather just not bother with registry fixes or extra validation hassles.

The price is going to go up from here?

Yes. Official date is Jan 1st.

I think someone at ocuk suggested, that it may be earlier if stock runs out.

Promotional offers will finish when retailers sell the stock they bought at promotional prices, then prices will rise towards the RRP. That's already happening with other retailers.

So yes, it makes sense to buy Windows 7 now. I thought the RC felt flakey in comparision to RTM, so I'd say it's worth installing it too.
