Right, should probably start with a disclaimer, I don't know why exactly but seen it in other guides so why not?

Disclaimer

I am not responsible for anything that breaks or catches fire or gets electrocuted through you following this guide, do so at your own risk. You have been warned!

Also this is not only my first guide, but also my first build and first mod, so be kind please :p.

It's also getto as ****, but on the plus side will be free providing you've got some very basic equipment.

What i'm doing

Stealth modding the DVD drive in my Fractal Design Arc Midi. Probably not the most productive use of a saturday ever, but hey ho.

This will probably work with other cases too, but don't quote me on that...

Required stuff

Scissors

Double sided tape
SAM_0690.jpg

Spare drive bay cover (forgot to get a picture of this, please don't hate me :().

So what did it look like before?

SAM_0665.jpg

Step uno

First thing is to move the drive back so theres enough space to put the bay cover in front of it without it sticking out and looking **** (well, actually the first step is to turn of and unplug your computer so you don't electrocute yourself. If you've failed this please refer back to the disclaimer...).

Not really sure why I took this shot, but **** it.

Ah this one is more useful :).

Step deux

Next you need to snap of the clips on the side of the bay cover (not sure if all bay covers have these, but whatever just use your common sense and you should be fine ;)). I just twisted it off, but some of the more petit members may need power tools :p

Gotta love low aperture...

Step さん

This is where the tape and scissors come into play. Fill the bay cover up with tape (I used double sided 'cause its thicker than yo mommas arse :p, but if you've got a week off work then feel free to use normal tape ;)). Be careful not to let it drop over the sides when you get to the top, otherwise it'll stick to the case fascia and the drive won't open :(. Keep checking the fitment so you don't overdo things.

Step ****ing four

Not strictly neccessary, but it was lunch time and I was hungry...

SAM_0684.jpg

Step cinque (I had to google that one :o)

Put a strip of tape onto the disk holder bay slot thingy and stick the drive bay onto it. This obviously needs to be double sided tape. Also do this with the drive closed so it lines up perfectly :).

Step سِتّ (thank Allah for LearnArabicOnline.com)

Sit back and admire your frankly baller stealth drive!

SAM_0698.jpg

SAM_0700.jpg

That's does indeed look baller, but how do I open the drive?

Simply push the lower right (or lower left if you've got a freak drive) and it'll push the button and, you guessed it, open the drive!

This guide is stupidly basic, even a monkey could figure it out on their own, why did you even bother writing it?

**** you :p

The End

Can't think of anything to write in here other than thank you and goodbye.

Such a simple mod.

Yh can't understand why more people don't do it, it looks so much smarter and is stupidly simple :), it sucks when you see some awesome watercooled case with many days or even weeks of work gone into it, where everything is neat and tidy except for the front which looks a mess :(.

Something I don't get is why don't more case manufacturers provide a 'stealthed' cover for their cases. Lian-Li do (or at least comes with some cases but needs to be purchased with others) and really does improve the look. Cost I guess must be the reason.

As a note, I've just tried this with my HTPC build, used No More Nails tape, on the plus side damn that stuff is strong, and bonds instantly, on the negative side, damn that stuff is strong and bonds instantly, lol, which means when you get your positioning out by 1mm, youre stuck, literally. Was only 1mm out so figured if I kinda pushed it down as it went in (plate was positioned slightly too high) then it may readjust, well it went in, now I cant get it back out, looks like Im taking the case apart again, D'Oh
