Steam account creation

I've tried to create a Steam account from two different IP's so far. I'm sure I got the "enter the text" part right every time.

First try it always tells me to re-enter the messed up text to prove I'm human, then it tells me my account creation failed and to try later, which it keeps telling me if I try again from that IP. Same sequence happened from both IP's that I tried from.

How long until it lets me try again? The "enter text" part must be messed up because I'm sure I entered it correctly every time.

Not sure how long you need to wait. Just a note that the text you need to enter is also case sensitive. I absolutely hate trying to guess what it says because some time it is quite difficult to tell what case it is.

In all cases it seemed to be quite clearly all caps (even letters like C's). But next time I'll keep refreshing it until there are only letters like A's and so forth.

The other IP that I tried from was my phone, so that was a different browser. I'll still try from firefox on another computer behind the same router in case it just stores the browser ID, but I suspect it's probably IP based.

It has a pretty aggressive anti-DOS attack procedure... only two tries and you have to wait... jeez.

Cheers

I'm not signed up yet, but I think I know what's going on now.

It seems to ask for the text twice on purpose... it asks to "re-enter the text to verify...". So apparently it's not that I'm getting them wrong.

The problem is probably that their registrations are just screwed up ATM and that error doesn't come until the registration is about to go through.

EDIT: It worked all of a sudden. So I can finally start playing Portal :)

I had all those problems you describe when signing up for Steam. Turns out the name I'd chosen was already taken, but for some reason, it kept insisting I'd entered the wrong anti-bot text. What a retarded system
