steam advice

hello i am new to steam and downloading the games ect from there,with windows 7 coming this week i will be installing a fresh copy of it on my ssd,so i decided to put the steam software and batman on my f3 which is where its going to stay,now im not sure whether steam puts any files on the ssd or not,will i have to download the game/software again,all i see on desktop is the batman icon and steam or will i be ok and how would i get those icons to work again once i install windows.

You may have to reinstall Steam, not sure on that.

The game files you'll be fine with, just keep them in the Steam directory and you won't have to redownload them.
