Steam alternative?

When it comes to gaming platforms for PC it's normally a case of being forced to install the client to play the game.

Origin - https://www.origin.com
UPlay - http://uplay.ubi.com/
Battle.Net - https://eu.battle.net/account/download/

Origin is required to play EA games from the last few years
UPlay I'm not so sure about. Think it's required paricular games, but the same games may be available for Steam.
Battle.Net is currently optional for Blizzard games

UPlay is for Ubisoft games but I think you are correct and the games are mostly available for Steam also.

I have to be honest I have experienced all 3 and I prefer Steam. Both Origin and UPlay feel sluggish and really not user friendly in comparison.

But maybe i'm just a fanboy?

Oh. If it's the Market side of things you want from a client, be aware many retailers provide Steam/Origin codes these days and they can be generally had for less that buying direct through the client.

If you just want a application to launch games from you could try the windows inbuilt games explorer, Start > Games.

I'm not sure if you can add any game to it, it seems to add a selection automatically.

Not at all. I don't despise Origin but compared to Steam it just doesn't feel as optimised or streamlined as it could be. Sure, it's no GFWL but it just feels like there could be room for improvement.

Then again, recently Steam has started being odd. It seems to want to update every day, then there's the software it installs when you first run a game which it also seems to want to do every single time I run said game.

I think deleting the installers in the redist directory of the game stops that.
