I'm enraged. My connection is not the best, so 4 days later I've downloaded about 90% of Saints Row: The Third, and then next time I turn my computer on, it's at 1%!!!!!!!

The folder within SteamApps/Common is at 7GB so what's going on?

Cheers.

Not sure if possible, but try verifying the game cache by right clicking the game in steam > properties.

Also it might just download the last 10% even though its starting from scratch

What did, the cache thing? how long did you leave it cause sometimes it stops for a while then shoots up to 100%

Had a few glitches recently where it showed the "total to download" as the full game but when it downloaded what was left it then reset to 'ready to play'.

Scariest was New Vegas - suddenly said it had a 9Gb patch... 350Meg later I was playing.

Yeah double check its actually redownloading the whole lot - steam downloads usually resume and show the percentage of the amount left not the total amount... usually... won't be the first time a download has failed if it has tho.

Don't rely on the numbers quoted in Steam like others I've had it saying I need massive (gigabytes) updates for games but it has completed quicker than the maximum throughput of my connection would allow.

Try removing the GCF / saints row folder from the steamapps directory, then launch steam. This will remove the game as far as Steam is concerned.

Close steam and paste the files / folder you removed, back in to steamapps and re-open Steam. It should pick it up and verify the files.

Exactly. There was once an occasion where steam was finishing the download of something and it said it was downloading at 17,674MB/s for a minute or so while it scanned through the content already on disk :)
