Steam and duplicate games Q?

I aready own Civ IV, Warlords & Beyond the Sword... I want Colonization the new add-on.

My question is if I bought the new Civ Complete Pack off Steam for £25 what happens to all the other Civ games I already have? Do they become spare and able to be transferred to another Steam account?

AFAIK only a few games become spare. Half Life 2 (not the episodes) is one of them.

I know but my son uses my Steam account on his PC to play Civ IV. Was hoping to be able to give him his own copy and let me get the new add on at the same time.... ah well.

Cant you just create a new Steam account for these? Then let your son use your original one to play Civ IV and you got a seperate one with the whole collection?
