I have a dual boot laptop with WinXp and the Win7 RC 7100 installed on it, in XP all the pings in my steam games are as they should be given my connection, in the 30-50 range.

However when i boot into W7 they are all suddenly in the 120-180 range..

Neither Xp or Win7 has anti-virus installed and the firewall has been configured for the steam games.

Also on my destop i have Vista64 installed, and the pings are the same as they are in XP...

It just seems to be a W7 problem.....

I really would like to install W7 on my desktop, but not if im going have all my steam games unplayable.....

Any ideas guys..?, ive done abit of Googling and tried a few suggestions from there but it makes no difference.

wireless/cabled?

i only ever use gigabit when i need solid pings, but there are decent drivers for some usb and pci wireless cards that work well too

have been using 7 this year, and no ping problems.

maybe it is a problem with the drivers for my wireless laptop (Atheros Wireless Lan)...i dont know.

In all all likelyhood, the problem wont occur on my desktop which is connected with a cable....

Its just a major hassle to do a reboot and find out the problem is still there...and then have to re-install Vist64...:(...lifes too short

Moved from Win XP to Win7 a few weeks back, I have to admit it looks like a good move.

Pings through steam are same as XP for me.
