Hi guys

I'm having trouble finding an answer to this question as all the answers online seem to relate to initial installs...

I have my Steam installation on 1 Western Digital Green 5400rpm 2TB drive and though it's speedy, it's not the fastest at loading games up.

I've seen that Crucial have just brought out a 512GB SSD with silly read/write speeds and that sounds great for game loading speeds.

Is it possible with Steam to migrate games from an HDD to an SSD? I'd like to move new games and games I'm playing onto an SSD and then when they have been completed migrate them back to the HDD for archiving.

Is that something that can be done?

Thanks. :)

Thanks for the reply! :)

Do you know where there are instructions to do it manually that are up to date?

That program sounds great but I notice that it's four years old and may not work as well with Steam in it's current form. I don't want to risk breaking anything with the game installs, especially for games that don't have cloud backup.

Thanks.

Steammover works fine. It's just using mklink to create symbolic links, nothing has changed with that process in years. If you want to run the commands manually, there's a tick box in Steammover that shows you the commands it will run, that way you can learn it for yourself.

Could clone the hdd to the ssd
Then make sure the ssd as the drive letter the hdd originally had
Thats what is what i would do and have done myself

Just thought I'd pop back and say thanks very much for the Steammover idea, it works perfectly!

Stuff is now loading up so much more quickly and it's so simple to move it between the drives! :D
