Hi there, I'm reformatting this week - last time I did this I used the Backup facility in Steam, worked fine but I lost my savegames.

Can I just backup the entire Steam Directory to a spare harddisk, reinstall Steam on the reformatted disk, then copy the whole lot back? Is there a better way?

All ears!!

You can back up the entire Steam folder.

After a fresh Windows install you don't need to install steam again either, just run the Steam.exe in the steam folder and it will run without installation.

The best way to do it I find is to back up the whole Steam folder.

Then re-install Steam and copy the old files back over.

Then look for a file called clientregistry.blob and delete it.

Then start Steam and it'll update and re-scan the folders and find your existing game files and everything has always been fine when I've done that!
