Steam Badges are Here

These badges are so lame, but people need to feel a sense of acheivment, and hey presto, steam provides....

It's why most steam games have acheivments now. People need to feel a sense of "OMG I DUN WASD" and be shown numbers/stats on how great they WASD'd

They can be used to track a persons progression/skill/addiction in a game if they unlock some of the harder achievements.

I guess they can also be used as an incentive (albeit an empty one) to non-completionists to explore all of the content in a game.

If people enjoy them then let them enjoy them, if you don't then ignore them. Everyone wins. I know I won't be bothered with them.
 
With regards to achievements, I am so bad at games that nobody ever believes any of my claims so I usually need to prove it somehow, so achievements are very handy for me!
 
As a freebie they toss in, fine.

But when they list Steam achievements as a selling points it makes me think someone's taking the pee.

Exactly, they can encourage players to try new things or explore a game further than they might otherwise have done.

Steam badges are just a bit of fun and display a person's community involvement.
 
I thought it would give something, but nope.

Golden potato gave the full steam pack, the Hat of Undeniable wealth and respect could be sold for $300. This is pretty fail.
 
Has anyone had trouble completing the Steam Pillar badge? I've done everything except the YouTube video upload. I have uploaded multiple videos (all public), yet for some reason I just don't get the badge. :confused:
