I first downloaded Steam near 21 years ago to preload HL2, a mad amount of time when I think about it :o

I've never used the platform heavily since until the steamdeck came along, but like many, there is a fair chunk of stuff in my library from impulse humble bundles etc.

It'd be nice to actually start using some of the organisation tools, but figured I'd ask what people have done to manage theirs?

Slightly unrelated aside from the 'organisation' aspect, but with all the different launchers, the different install locations and how games are spread over my drives makes it frustrating keeping track of all games. I used Playnite but I don't feel it just works.

Gamepass is supposed to aggregate all games from different launchers now but it's in early stages o think?

I use WinDirStat to check my drives, but I thought I'd use AI (Gemini), to create an app to scan and look for games and compile a list, it works but far from perfect, I keep 'talking to the AI' to make refinements but still.

Tldr, I find pcs so frustrating for organising and consoles are still so much better in this respect.

for steam organisation - i use the inbuilt tools, dynamic lists, show installed and last played.
i have custom lists of things like "completed" "favourite" "next to complete"

for everything else.. not a lot

Ditto to the above. I use categories for like unplayed, ongoing, completed, replay. I have one called rubbish for games which are… rubbish.

I have a mess with no organisation and no categories. I dont use any other gaming platforms, only steam.

Its a list of all games owned for PC ever since the beginning 2003!

I sometimes load steam up to bask in awe at this huge list of games I've never played :D

Yes, the downside of having access to titles from multiple "platforms" along with access to your full back catalog!

The only reason consoles are easier is because you lose access to most of your previous games when you buy a new one.

On my main PC I have GoG Galaxy set up to present to me my huge list of games from every launcher I have games for EXCEPT Steam, so GoG, Epic, Ubisoft, EA, Amazon, Battlenet etc. Steam is my preferred launcher and so is open all the time, whereas I only open Gog Galaxy as and when, so I don't want my Steam games appearing in both game hoarding lists. Using Galaxy as a portal for all the other launchers allows me to a)simply bask in the stupidly big list of games I have across all launchers (mostly free Epic/Amazon), and b)have a handy list of everything to check if I already own a game across the multiple launchers when a game pops up on a Steam sale.

On the Steam Deck I fell in to the trap of haphazardly installing loads of games might be good on the Deck and have never really recovered. I just you the Home bar to show me my most recently played games and use that mainly. Now I am getting more in to emulation on the Deck I am having to control myself a bit more and am using the Collections feature more this time.
