Steam client slow to load content

Over the last few days the Steam client is very slow at loading content. Images load like I'm on dialup, and video just doesn't work. Broadband speed and connectivity to other sites is fine, it's just Steam that's the issue.

I've tried clearing the Steam web cache and starting - but this makes no diff. I've also rebooted the cable modem and router to no improvement. I have checked on 4 PCs on my home network and they all have the same issue.

Is it just me, or are any of you guys having the same issue?

Have you tried changing regions under settings?

It's generally been relatively okay for me over the last few days.

So I tried briefly switching off the default block rule in my pfsense firewall, no difference.

I did get normal connectivity when connecting a machine to the internet via a VPN. So it's either a problem with my ISP or my firewall (odd as I haven't changed anything).

Mines a little slow when compared to the website which is much quicker.

Ever since that library update, I've noticed a small increase of system resources when loading up steam again

Fixed it in the end by changing my DNS to a different service. Back to normal now.
