Have to say, having just received Fallout 3 as a present, Windows LIVE is a complete joke compared to the STEAM Community features.

The UI is cumbersome and feels VERY limited.

I for one one wish developers STOPPED supporting Windows LIVE and used the STEAM Community features which are now free to implement nowadays are they not?

If you buy GTA IV on STEAM, can you use the FULL STEAM Community features?

It would be good if every game manufacturer would agree on just two methods of delivering games - the good old fashioned CD/DVDs and Steam. Would be brilliant if every single game made was available on Steam.

I love steam. Some people I know cant stand it.
Cant please everyone.

I like the new friends features etc. Much better than XFire.

If someone could combine the best of Steam, Live and Xfire it would be quite simply the greatest program ever written. Maybe add some Ventrilo in there too! Sadly that's never going to happen, so there will always be some parts of some service that people don't like. Just the way it is!

I've been using the Friends system on Steam lately with L4D & it works Flawlessly, Steam also takes advantage of my connection when it comes to downloading updates etc
As much as I like Steam though I still bought the CD, Hardly seems worth it though as the case was crap & there is no manual to flick through whilst I am on the Bog.
Happy to use & recommend Steam/Valve to anyone though.

I think Steam is superb. Having all of your games in one easy to manage library is invaluble, especially if, like me, some of your discs sometimes go for a walk. :( The amount of times I've been saying "yyyyeeeesssss" (/Napoleon Dynamite) to myself because I can just re-download a game I've bought on there has made it a success in it's own right. That paired with the friends options, the automatic downloading of updates (this is really great) and the community features (which is really the cherry on top of the cake) is why nothing else can really compete in my eyes.

Steam - amazing, for all the reasons people mentioned above. Downside - if your account gets hacked your could lose hundreds of pounds worth of games. Game prices on steam - insanely high now, because of exchange rate in some instances, can explain why games like cod4 was so expensive last year.

Steam is a good idea but it is no where near perfect.

* Games only available to specific countries.
* No £ rate. Everything is in dollars so it's a complete guess at checkout.
* It costs more to buy the game on Steam than it does in a shop (and then, with some games, you can register it on Steam)

Steam has had a ton of development over the years compared to LfW. Course it'll be a lot better. Steam is hardly perfect though and still cheeses me off.

Steam needs a bit more effort on the webpage-driven tabs, the thought of Internet Exploder rendering these bits still gives me chills.

Steam is Hot !!!!!!

my only problem is that i see a new game on there that normally i wouldnt have bought and with a few clicks its in my games list , superb !

I like Steam :)

If the games was not priced so High and it had more games on it. I would certainly buy more.

i doubt people with Low connection speeds like Steam to be honest and i have found steam to be pretty annoying sometimes, especially the occasional 5minutes it takes to login, i mean come on, i just wanna play the bloody game, lol

5mins to log on without CD

or

Have to mess about finding CD to game put CD in then wait for CD to boot.

Option 1 you dont need CD ergo you cannot ever lose the game as even if you have a new HDD as long as you know your account you can download it again

Option 2 means you need CD if you ever lose it you are buggered and therefore need to either buy game again or....othermeans *wink wink*

I know what i would rather do. Then again I have a 8meg line i norm see about 4-5meg so having a low connection is not a prob for me :D

Windows LIVE for me all the way. New version is very streamlined: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=128962

When MS get their PC Marketplace with HD movies, Demos & Digitial Downloads up & running STEAM will struggle to compete as MS are looking to gain market share not maximise profits. STEAM pricing for years has been a complete joke. They should not charge anymore than retail as bandwidth is cheaper than retail costs (shop overheads, staff etc etc). As games get bigger this will only suffer more. GTA-IV is a perfect example as its a massive download, costs lot more than retail & you have to wait ages before you can even play it.

Almost every game ever made gets a nodisc patch at sometime so the argument about not needing the disc in your drive fails as well.

You have to remember with Steam though that you are getting unlimited downloads of the games you've bought. Don't all the other services make you pay an additional fee so you can download the game again in the future?

I like steam, not perfect but rarely does something come close. It does what its meant to and quite well.

I like the thought of my games simply existing on the internet and I can download them whenever and wherever I want. Its by far the best compromise between disillusioned pirates (who treat law abider's as suckers) and greedy producers (who treat law abider's as suckers).

More money goes to devs (who will make more games), less money from gamers (who will buy more games). Less to suits and shirts. Thus more games to gamers. Takes out the middle man.

Optical media is soooo early naughties.

512k and I love Steam.

I have never waited 5 mins to log in.

I run everything through Steam now. I add all my non steam games in there, I just love the in game steam overlay. It makes messaging so much easier than xfire. I wish I could get official support for every non steam game I own, it would be very happy for Steam to become the central hub of PC gaming.

They really need to fix the pricing though. At $49.99 a lot of these games can be up to 15 quid dearer than in the shops!

Other than that I likes it ^^

I'd have Steam's babies if I could.

If GabeN turned up on my doorstep, I'd give him a kiss.
