Steam seems to have started crashing my pc while downloading a game and after a recent update
Just bought GA IV and left it downloading and after a while I went back to my pc and it had a blue screen. I rebooted my pc and carried on downloading with no problem and I had a play of it afterwards.
Later I left it downloading the Liberty City add on, did the same and went back to it and there was a blank screen with a box saying something like "asroutinecontroller.exe has stopped working.
I tried to crtl-alt-del but task manager would not appear and I had to manually shut down my pc.
Then I thought I would do a system restore, but all the restore points had been wiped, I have tried a couple of more time and it is all right for a few minutes then crashes again.
I do not have any problem while playing games etc, only when I try to download with Steam, so it seems to have got corrupted and is messing other things up as well.
I have read that you can delete certain files and Steam will reinstall itself, do you think that would cure the problem
Any Ideas
Thanks

I doubt it's Steam causing your crashes. Do you leave your PC idling on other than to dl from Steam?

If I were to have a guess I would be looking at an unstable overclock or perhaps a dodgy video/network driver

Have you noted any error codes on the BSOD?

My pc has been no problem up until part way through the download, after downloading part of it I turned my pc off and the next day carried on downloading, but before doing so Steam wanted to update itself, it was later on after that I started having this problem, it might be a coincidence though.
My pc is just at stock speed not overclocked, there was just a blank screen with the box with the message about "asroutinecontroller.exe not working, the second and third time it happened it was a black screen,
Also on the third time Steam had lost the part download and i had to start again
I will have to try it again and make a more detailed note of the error messages

That is part of the Asus AI suite. I'd either uninstall it (if you don't use it for anything, I can't remember what it does aside from overclocking, which you don't do) or obtain a new copy here

Yes you are right, I have done some googling and it is part of the Asus AI Suite, it seems very odd that it only crashes the pc when Steam is downloading and not at any other time, also that my system restore files were wiped, task manager stopped working and the part download went missing from Steam.
As I dont really use AI suite at the moment I will try uninstalling it and see if anything else is affected when I start downloading again
