Hello there,

Around 6pm my internet connection gets traffic shaped and downloads are quite slow. Unfortunately Steam gets cut to practically nothing and I can't even start a game up as the connection to the Steam servers is practically blocked off.

When launching CS:S through Steam it just hangs on the launching screen which I assume is to do with Steam authorising the game. Is there a way to launch CS:S without going through Steam so that I can actually play it?

Thanks for any help :D

Traffic shaping usually only takes place if you are downloading too much during the day.

What ISP are you with? If it's Virgin, just cut down on downloads during the day. Or increase your package to deal with it.

Kingston Communication, in Hull there is only one provider :( It's rented, shared accommodation also so I can't do much about the connection. I leave torrents going during the day but they aren't too intense, god knows what the 4 other people here do so I don't have much control over it.

If I stay in a game from like 5pm its ok all night but its just launching the damn thing.

Hmm. In that case I doubt there is a lot you can do.

I suffered with shared internet in first year uni. Can get pretty bad when everyone is on. In this case, I doubt there is anything you can do sadly. Unless they offer a "premium" service with less people sharing accommodation. Or have I totally misunderstood your internet situation?

Its not so much the amount of people as I have decent speeds in the day and everyone is always here and using it, just at 6pm it goes sloooow and some stuff just doesn't go at all, ie. Steam!
