Banned by Game Developer (Game Ban)

Playing games should be fun. In order to ensure the best possible online multiplayer experience, Valve allows developers to implement their own systems that detect and permanently ban any disruptive players, such as those using cheats.

Game developers inform Valve when a disruptive player has been detected in their game, and Valve applies the game ban to the account. The game developer is solely responsible for the decision to apply a game ban. Valve only enforces the game ban as instructed by the game developer.

For more information about a game ban in a specific game, please contact the developer of that game.

Not sure I like this tbh, if the devs had to show 100% proof that a person was hacking then sure issue the VAC ban. But I can see random Devs requesting the odd ban on players. People who maybe give bad reviews on the steam store or troublesome users in the games forum section. Valve will turn a blind eye at the odd 2/3 that claim they were wrongfully banned and you now have a shiny VAC ban on your account... Miscreated Devs are exactly the kind of Devs who would abuse this feature if only once or twice.

The way the info on Steam reads is all they have to do is request a ban, it also goes on to state if it is abused it will be taken away. Devs can't abuse it if they have to prove the cheats so it does seem all they need to do is request a VAC ban.

Yeah we are not talking about devs going on a ban roll. But we do have a few devs who have games on Steam who would do it at least once to someone, in my book that is one to many. One idea maybe would be to not allow any early access devs to be able to use this feature until the game hits full retail.

I don't really see the issue. The bans will presumably be down to actions in games rather than forums. Giving the developers better options to catch cheaters is a good thing imo.

Yeah agreed 100% but it can't be he said she said. They need to have 100% proof and Steam needs to see and check it out, but reading the above Steam page it seems all they have to do is request it and it is all down to the Devs to choose if they want a ban applied.
