Steam Disk write error...running out of ideas

Slightly OT but most PC gamers use Steam nowadays so thought I would be ok to post here. If an admin feels it would be better somewhere else then please move it.

I continue to have issues with a DISK WRITE ERROR message and updates failing in Steam, not a pop up, just a little message under the game name in the downloads on Steam.

This isn't consistent, it doesn't always happen. I ruled out SSD by buying a new one, reinstalled every game from scratch (which was a pain because it kept happening during that process), I've reset all the security settings per the advice etc. I've found through googling, and checking local content turns up no errors...

But still game updates stop with this damn message...which didn't start as soon as I upgraded to Win10, but has gradually appeared and is becoming more frequent...

Anyone got any ideas what I could look at next please? (my mobo is quite old could it be the SATA2 port on the mobo maybe?)

Try a different port and cable if possible. I have had similar issues solved by changing the sata cable.

I'd echo the above comments. RAM instability can cause errors, especially during decompression which I suspect Steam does when installing (i.e. it is downloading compressed updates and then has to decompress them and write to disk).
