Steam downloading query?

I'm wanting to download BFBC2 on Steam, but also to be able to use another Steam game at the same time (Rome Total War, not playing online)

The problem is, Steam seems to stop downloading what I've just told it to download, as soon as I load the other game up! :mad:

Is this normal default behaviour? Is there any way to change this? Or am I stuck with leaving my PC on doing virtually nothing except downloading for several hours, as everything I'm currently playing is Steam based.

do you not do anything else bar playing on your pc? browse net? youtube? w/e.. but i swear steam still downloads for me.. even when launching an online game..

It pauses by default, alt tab out the game and resume the download and it'll carry on in the background.

It does that so it doesn't cause lag in multiplayer games. There should be an option to turn it off, though.

So you can continue to download whilst playing games in single player?

Tab out of your game.

Right click > Pause > Right click > Resume download > Tab back to game.

Cheers, I'll give that a go.

I don't use my PC for a whole load other than games, I'm not a good 'random internet browsing' person, and using Youtube while downloading games rather defeats the purpose

Suppose I have a couple of DVD rips that need shrinking down and a few backup discs I could be making while its' downloading, that might cover a couple of hours while I mull over what upgrade to get next!

i was wondering this too, i did the alt-tab thing before a while back but forgot about it
