Out of a total in program files (X86)

Is this right? seems pretty big for 1 game (Train Simulator)

Advice please.

thanks, Mel

About 700GB here on a 1TB SSD just for games. I'm lead to believe that you should leave a small amount of space free on an SSD so can't fit much more on there!

Some of the Train Sim stuff is massive in terms of file size - most recent route releases can approach 1Gb once unpacked. I think there is a way within Steam to deselect the add-ons you don't want and Steam will remove some of the files, but bear in mind if you have any freeware routes that reference payware stuff these may no longer work or display correctly.

If you're into train (and flight) sims as I am, with MSTS and Trainz also installed along with loads of additional content you need plenty of HD space!

My Railworks folder (this is the name Steam gives the TS2017 game and all it's previous incarnations) currently stands at 104GB and with only having interest in the Uk stuff I have barely scratched the surface regarding the available DLC ;)

Just use steammover to move the games you're playing on to an SSD and leave the rest on a mechanical drive. Save some serious dollar.

thats what I do, I have a 275Gb SSD for playing games and store the rest on my NAS / 2TB mechanical

I think they were referring to game loading times. If you've got the dollar I don't see why not to be honest, only downside is when a Solid State Drive dies it does it spectacularly.

Yeah games can take a lot of space :(

I have a few installed on an SSD as well but only those with huge textures or load times.

Organisation and knowing what you have where is crucial though.

So in short don't worry about it. 22GB for a game is about average by today's standards. Some games are close to exceeding 100GB on launch.

It use to be my steam folder that make me think about buying more hard drive space but with faster internet connections these days I just keep what I am playing and delete it when finished and then upload something new or old. A 500GB SSD for my gaming files only will do the job just fine. Steam ,Uplay, Origin and a few old CD/ DVD games just remember to backup save game files if you want to come back to them at some point in the future.
