Neat!

Edit* Just tried it out, can use it at the same time as NV ShadowPlay (NV App) and seems there's no resolution setting in the Steam recording and it records at 1920 max width whereas NV records at whatever you choose, so game res for me. Steam only records at 60fps and max video rate of 24Mbps at H.264, so quite limited in dynamic range. this is clearly for just sharing on socials rather than uploading high quality video at native res on youtube etc but it's a good start and it's beta so likely add more features later.

Interesting that I was able to record both ShadowPlay and Steam at the same time without a single fps drop - Both use the video encoders in the GPU, didn't expect both to have no impact although I know 4080/90 have dual video encoders to encode two streams at once so maybe this is why.

So does it upload and store the videos to the Steam servers and you can display them in your profile? Or does it just give you the video file for you to upload to YouTube and then link to it in Steam somehow?

It saves it in its own format and then from the steam overlay or after you exit the game can upload it to Steam as you would screenshots or export it to a .mp4 file for sharing to youtube etc.
