I am using the beta client of Steam and have noted they allow you to make changes on how game updates are going to be applied......

So, games that I am not playing at this moment will only update when I wish them to ,altho could be an issue if I actually wanted to play at that moment in time, rather than continually schedule and update.
At this point, only just noted the feature, I'm not sure what would happen if, as an example, No Mans Sky, that also has an update set as shown above, is not played in quite some time and other updates supersede the queued one, unless they need to be applied incrementally of course.
Still, decent enough, for the way I ignore many games for quite a while.
