I'm going to be purchasing a MacBook Air when the new generation are announced sometime soon. I’ve got a couple of games that I have purchased for my Windows PC through steam as well as Starcraft 2 that I wouldn’t mind having installed on my laptop when I get it. I know its a long shot, but would I be able to download the mac version of these games for free or would I need to purchase another copy relevant to the operating system that it is required for?

Cheers folks :)

In regards to most of the steam games, when you buy the windows version you get the mac one for free. You can see which games are mac versions even on the windows version of steam by filtering the games by mac.

As for starcraft 2, not sure tbh.

I wouldn't game on a macbook air though as they aren't designed for games at all. Get very hot when being stressed. I know this for fact as I'm typing on a 2011 model one right now :P

Get a MBP if you intend to game.

Nope, if a game is supported on the Mac on Steam and you have the PC copy, you'll have the Mac copy.

Look for the Steamplay logo. :)

For SC2, you can download the Mac version from Battle.net. :)

I play on the 2010 model of MBA and SC2 works great as does Diablo3.

All you have to do is download Steam and it'll have the install button available (No purchase needed) for those games that will work on a mac. If it doesn't have a mac version then it won't show.

Recently got a Mac myself and put steam on it, every game on my games list that is available for Mac can be downloaded and played at no extra cost (not sure if all games are like this though) . Starcraft 2 has the Mac client on the disc and I installed that fine on me Mac as well :)

Thats great, thanks folks! I aren't really getting the mac for gaming, I've got my desktop for that, however its good to know that I'll be able to put a few games on it for when I'm working away, just to kill some time. Had a look and the games that I wanted to put on it (Civilization and Football Manager) and both have the steamplay logo. Very nice bonus.

Thanks for the help folks :)
