If I make a server on a game such as Synergy or Garrysmod, how come my friend can't join it? I go to 'create server' do whatever, but when my friend clicks 'join game' it says 'server not responding', and we're totally stumped as to why.

I want to make a 2 player coop session on Synergy, is it really that much to ask? I've been trying to fix the problem all day but to no avail. Anybody got any advice?
 
I think I got it. My server's showing up on the server list now, my friend's going to join it in a minute, he uninstalled Synergy out of sheer frustration just as I fixed it :D
