How do you guys store your steam games? On the same drive as the OS? If so, SSD? Or on a separate drive, again SSD?

What size is your Games drive?

Got 120GB SSD for OS, 2TB HDD for games and films and music and files and stuff, with about 300GB still free. All my Steam library is fully installed and ready to play whenever the mood takes me, along with Origin, GoG and a few others.

256GB 840 PRO for OS
1TB 850 EVO for steam/origin/uplay etc
1TB WDB storage/backup/archive.

A fair few online games give a noticeable benefit from running a game from an SSD, in bf4 for instance, you can spawn and be a 1/3 of the way across the map in a tank by the time some players have loaded in.

2no 1tb samsung 850 evo ssd's raided for stuff i'm playing.
3no 4tb seagate drives raided for all the rest
Plus a 500gig 850 evo ssd for the os plus where steam app is installed on

120GB Evo for OS
500GB Evo for Games (Don't play many)
1.5TB ?? for local storage
12TB NAS for backups and media

250gb m.2 Samsung 950 for os
1TB Samsung 840 pro for steam
256GB for origin/uplay
128Gb for other games
Nas for everything else

Always been on a different drive to the OS so that I can format and reinstall Windows without losing the downloaded files.

Currently spread across a couple of SSDs. I've got rid of all rotating disks.

120GB SSD for OS and Anti Virus, Downloads.
2TB HDDfor Steam games. (Nowhere near enough, not even half installed..)
1TB HDD was for game modifications, but it hasn't worked.

What I attempted to do was store games mods on this 1TB drive (euro truck 2 for example) then the game on the 2TB drive and have it read mods from ANOTHER drive.

Not sure that's even possible hence why that drive barely has a thing on it.

Usually install steam games on the same SSD that contains my OS, and then shift them over to a mechanical drive when I've finished playing them.

Cheers people. I am thinking of getting another SSD just for steam game. Does the Steam folder automatically default to the C: drive or can one choose which drive to store/run it?

You can choose wherw to install the Steam software.

You can also choose where you instsll individual games through Steam.

On my main PC i have a 750GB SATA3 SSD with all games, apps and Windows on it.

On my little netbook thing I have a 32GB SSD(of some kind- pretty sure not SATA) but the vast majority of my games go on a Class 10 128GB SD card. I don't notice the difference between games on the ssd and the SD card.

120gb ssd for OS and other software, 480gb ssd for steam, origin etc. Then external drives and cloud storage for everything else.

I try to keep as little games installed as I can, think I have 20 atm. I do have fibre so it doesn't take long to download something else.
