Steam gifts

Hi all
My brother gifted both me and my girlfriend some steam games for xmas but neither me or her have steam installed. We have both recieved the gift email but i have told her not to read or delete it as the games are a suprise for her. I am just wondering if its ok to just leave the emails sitting there untill xmas day or whether there might be some time activation thing to recieve the gifted games.

Do gifts expire if they are not redeemed in a certain amount of time?

Gifts will not expire once they have been issued. Once the gift purchase has been activated, the game is permanently subscribed to the Steam account that it was redeemed on.
