Does anyone know if I send a steam gift to someone, can they then send it on to someone else? I have 2 spare DOTA 2 keys that I was going to give someone so that they can then give them away in a giveaway, but I'm not sure if the recipient will have the option to send them on to someone else, so if anyone know how it works that would be great.

Pretty sure that when you receive a gift you can put it in your inventory or you can put it on your game list. Someone else will probably confirm.

I had the same question when I was trying to gift something to a friend of a friend, but I found conflicting answers when I searched.

In the end I just got them to send me their friends e-mail address and gifted it straight to them using that, so I didn't need to be steam friends or anything.

Not an answer but maybe a solution if you can't find the answer.

I think you get a email which says "blah blah wants you to have this game" and it has a add to library button.

Don't think it goes in the inventory.

It seems to be doable by email, the person I gave one of my DOTA2 gifts to says they can send it on. The problem is I can't send me 2nd one, it seems to go through the process as normal but it remains on my gifts page and doesn't have a "gift sent to ...." thing listed. Steam seems to make this harder than it needs to be.

I didn't know what DOTA2 is so I searched the Steam library and it says I already own it. Whats that about, is it a free trial and do I need any other games to use it, i.e. Warcraft.

It's a stand alone game (currently in beta), but will be free to play when official released. There are many games trying to get in on the genre right now, such as heroes of newerth and League of Legends (which is by far the most popular). Personally I prefer LoL to DOTA2, but some prefer DOTA2.
