Steam Help Please

Hi,

Ive just got mafia 2 and it had me unistall steam from my pc and reinstall it, the problem im having is now ive got steam back on my pc all my games on steam are saying to reinstall but I have them on my pc already. So how do I get them back on steam without having to reinstall through steam for hours when they are already on my pc please?

are they in your steamapps folder ? check size
did you reinstall steam in exactly the same place ? if not then cut and paste contents to steamapps folder.
never heard of a game asking you to uninstall steam...are you sure you read it correctly ?

click install on one of the games (that you have on your computer) and check if it actually downloads it or just verifys the files.

Did you copy the old games out when you uninstalled Steam and then put them back?

If so, just "installing" the games again shouldn't require any downloading.

Im really lost I cant seem to find my steam games at all I didnt delete them from my pc just the steam client, when I run them on steam all they want to do is install.

You uninstalled Steam (although I can't understand why) - this probably removed the installed game content.

Check the steamapps subdirectory - if the game content is still there, then Steam will just verify the local content when you tell it to download.

If you deleted the Steam folder, you'll have deleted the games as well.

You need to backup the "steamapps" folder before uninstalling Steam if you want to keep them.

Goto C:\program files(x86)\steam\steamapps (or wherever you put steam || without the x86 depending on your OS) and tell us what you see.

Do you see:
A: Bunch of folders with stuff in them, the name of which corresponds to a game you have, 1 folder per game
B: Nothing
C: Like (A) but without stuff in the folders

If you see:
A: You're fine: r click the name of the game in the "library" tab > properties > find the verify integrity option and use it. Will take a while but you're OK!
B: You're not so lucky: you need to re-download everything (steam is getting HAMMERED from free TF2 downloading so it's slow currently)
C: See (B)
