My Raid 0 stripe died on me losing my 90GB steam folder so I'm going to get a 128GB SSD

I have the majority of steam backed up to my server

Is it a question of installing steam on the new SSD and then just copying the contents of the steam apps folder from the server to the new steam apps folder on the SSD?

I have backed up about 60GB of games I will have download the rest again

cheers

You copy them over and then run through the install procedure. Steam will check for any files already there and will only download if there are missing files/updates.

Just copy the whole steam folder over and run steam.exe, it will install itself again from this exe

do I download the Steam msi create a folder on the SSD called Games\steam

copy the steamapps folder to games\steam then run the msi? and choose the SSD games\steam as the location for the new install?

Just install steam as normal, then navigate to Steam/Steam Apps/ and paste the games in there. The majority of them go into the common folder while the source games go into your username folder.

You should also check out the Steam FAQ thread for details on how to run Steam across multiple drives so as you don't have to entirely dedicate your SSD to games or to increase your storage space.
