Hi my download is taking ages is the lines that show connection supposed to have random gaps now and again ?

No, It must be your conection if there is gaps in your download Or unless steam is playing up tonight

try changing the download region and see if it improves

I get it sometimes too, downloading at 4mbps, then suddenly drops to 500k, then back upto 4mbps again. It's odd.
