Steam ID? WTF?? Locked Out Of Account? ARGHH

Im trying to purchase some games, never been a problem until today.

it kept on saying:

'There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance.'

So i waited, and now when i try and buy it asks me to 'log in' when i try and purchase a game.

but i am logged into steam!! all my freinds are online and im their too, i know my account details as i can see my account name in the top corner, if i go and change my password to my usual code it says 'new password is same as old password'

So i know my ID and password yet Steam says INCORRECT LOGIN DETAILS when i try and purchase a game and login on the screen it pops up when i hit 'purchase for myself'!!!?!?!?!?!?!

But i am logged in! and i know my details!

Argh.

Steam seems to be down at the moment. Which being a Tuesday is not a surprise as thats when they tend to roll out updates.

Just give it 30mins / a few hours.

Have you tried restarting Steam? Sometimes I get login errors on the community bit when the steam servers go down and come back on again.

Failing that either wait for a while and see if it works then as Steam seem to be performing maintenance at the moment or perhaps try Steam support?

Are you purchasing from the Steam client or the Website?

Try logging in here and then purchasing:

https://store.steampowered.com/login/

Maybe a temporary glitch.

I know that Friends is down for me at present using the UI beta.

i receive incorrect login details when i try through http aswell :confused:

yes and wait 7 days for Valve to reply? or just see if their is some glitch/maintenance though the forums?

Thanks guys, seems to be one of those nights... cant do anything on steam and i cant purchase my parking + locker tickets for Download festival... getting errors everywhere i go.

For me too, I'm barely getting 1.5Mb connection this evening with Virgin, it's supposed to be 20Mb

ahhh, the world is a better place... finally allowed me to purchase BC2.

at least it was downtime, was beginning to worry my account had been hijacked or something.
