Steam in home streaming client/htpc

Currently using an n40L microserver with a hd5450 for this and tbh its not quite up to the task. Fine at 720p streams but stutters at 1080p even on wired gb network.

Wondering if any of you have used in home streaming and can confirm a hardware point at which 1080p works well. It could just be that i'm running it on 4Gb ram i guess.

Thinking something like a NUC for replacement.
 
I use my girlfriends laptop & occasionally my work laptop.
Work laptop uses 4GB RAM and a low end i5 processer.
GF laptop uses a A6-5400 apu with 6GB RAM.

Apparently it can stream perfectly fine through a Raspberry Pi as well, so I think it would be OK, what upload/download are you getting from both machines?
