Steam is addictive

Yeah, i remember a few years back most people slagged it off... but it does kill off buying second pc games does it not?!

I was one of those people, I really hated Steam because it was getting between me and playing HL2 but that was back when I had an ISDN line, back when Steam was new.

Now I swear by Steam and have already amounted quite a sizeable collection with them (134 games, how did that happen )

Yes Steam is VERY addictive to your bank balance! :P

156 games and hardly play any of em

Doom3 demo wont play after download from steam. Click on the play tag in steam.... looks like it gonna load (the little steam icon/window comes up) but nothing happens... could it be win7?!

The main problem is you end up with loads of games you don't have time to play.

This is the truth, the annoying truth.

I bought the THQ pack when it was on sale for 19:99 and got something like 25 games, haven't played any apart from DoW 2 for a few hours and some CoH. I just don't have the time anymore to play them anymore :(

FML.

I've downloaded Morrowind and Silent Hunter 3 on my netbook, not having an optical disc makes Steam essential. Would like to get Quake I on there next.
I would like to see Morrowind running on your netbook, that is still a demanding game at times.

I'm another one who is probably bad for buying more off Steam than I actually manage to play, especially since I got my netbook as well, the Half Life Collection, Quake Collection, Doom Collection and Counterstrike and Source all of these are really for my netbook and I've bought Bad Company 2, F1 2010, for the desktop.

Also got the Monkey Island stuff and the Naval Collection (688i Hunter Killer, Fleet Command and Sub Command) & Dangerous Waters that I bought a while back but only Bad Company 2 seems to get any play!!!!

Edit: Oh and Civ 3

the thing about Steam and buying too many games is you can impulse buy 24/7. Sometimes you'll be sat there at midnight, a few beers etc and you'll see an absolute bargain in the sale - which you may not even play...!

I do like the the format though.

I recently picked up a laptop and it's handy to log in and download the less GPU intensive games like Peggle, X-COM etc :)

Steam's objective is make purchasing more convenient and easy than piracy, and it does a fine job at that.

That's the way to beat the pirates, not by an arms race to lock down your games with DRM so much that the pirated version ends up better, but by offering a better service.

They say you can't compete with free, but you can if the service is good enough.

Steam is okay as it sorts the potential PITA of patching games. It does, however, destroy any change of selling games on and the prices are often absurd.

Fallout 3 GOTY Ed. on Steam is £30, from Amazon it is £12. With a manual.

No contest, really.

True.

There needs to be genuine competition like the online retailers, maybe this Microsoft service will provide that and each will battle each other with better deals.
