ok heres the thing... got my new gpu and noticed it would raise the core clock and memory clock to play video's on net..
so turned off hardware acceleration on the settings that solved that problem gpu stayed at the lower settings not turning on at al to play video's ( made no diffrence on quality)

now just 40 mins later
i see this...

check the clocks on this pic
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/5618/screenhunter01jun071953.gif

this only happens when i have a steam window on active...
i can have like next to another window from another program put side by side so can see both and it i click the 1 that is not steam the clocks stay low...

if i leave it active on steam window dosent matter which....( not in game)
the clocks go up and down ... ( in a quite nice pattern actually lol ) but wot i need to know is either a way to stop it is wot i really want

or is this bad for my gpu ... all that changing... coz that means the things the cut and higher the power being used more on the gpu so might burn out quicker...

Is this causing serious instability issues?

If not, then who cares. If you were to analyse every single thing your components were doing 24/7 you would go crazy.

Open task manager and watch your cpu usage history. Move the cursor around and watch it spike up... it's not a big deal, component usage will vary.

If it's not broke don't fix it. To many people build fancy pc's to play games and enjoy them... yet 95% of the time their playing with settings, tweaking this or that and getting head aches over nothing.

If it's not broke don't fix it. Just forget all the squiggly patterns, play some games and chill out. When it starts to smoke, pop, bang or fails to POST. Then post a thread.

:D

i would rather solve this sooner than later because i know the parts on gpu changing wattage intake will get a bit stressed doin this
yes i know this why ive never update my mobo bios (p5ql-pro) nearly 3 years old... but my old gpu never done this a 5670.. lower gpu..
so why is a higher gpu changning so much...
there is no problem at the moment but havent really gamed with it yet just tested... been wathcing E3 live lol

You mean Flash player hardware acceleration? It may still try to access some GPU resources and kicking it off.Not sure what you can do about that, or bother at all.

the new Virtu tech is suppose to take care of these little things. I bet even it can't get it right every time.

i dont have a problem with the video playing i solved that it dosent get used at all now ...
its when i type on steam it wildy goes up and down

How about watching videos on Youtube, or typing in youtube? Does that have the same affect as Steam?

na lol told ya ive checked everything i do aginst gpu to see how it gets used coz its new...

it used to raise clocks when i viewed vids.. but not type...
then i turned off flash hardware accel off and it stoped raising the clocks while viewing... so as far as i can tell this is litrally just steam .. which is even weirder

edit/update.. i can be active on the steam window andd the clocks will drop... its asoon as i start typing the clocks goes nuts on me

well ive fixed it myself... didnt go into bios..
opend up CCC for ati ... turned all the settings to performance instead of quality... and now the clocks stay down no matter wot i do.... and the gpu gets used 1% every now n then instead of clocks going up ... so i think i prefer it this way round

i agree, i used to be obsessive about what my computer was doing, but thats no fun - why build a computer if your never gonna enjoy it? :)

lol i did this because the Vregtemps on gpuz where getting warmer when it done it... so being used didnt want them burning out on me wot ever it is

and trust me i do enjoy it i play crysis and bf:bc2 and black ops mainly them 3

no harm in making sure everything is running fine speacily as its a new graphic card and new psu

It was running fine. That's the point. It was clearly normal. If you think typing stresses out the gpu. Why don't you take a look at it when running furmark. That's what you call stressing it out.

There was never an issue with the card in the first place. It wasn't being stressed and it wasn't doing anything it wasn't supposed to.

Components are designed to take a battering and last years. I hardly think typing in a steam window was going to cause it to blow up.
