Hey guys,

Why do I keep getting stopped from playing my steam games?! I went to play portal 2 earlier and I get a "this game is currently unavailable error."

I went to play it and avast reported it as an error/virus and recommended I should do a boot scan, which I did, now I just want to play my game :(

Isn't there a way of renaming something and downloading one or two game files again? I need a quick fix...

Out of interest, does anyone know why this keeps happening?

Cheers!

I renamed the file (clientregistryold.blob) and it hasn't worked, same message... would not deleting it have made a difference

This error used to be caused quite often by antivirus packages (in particular NOD32), so try disabling Avast before launching anything.

If avast is reporting an error, either there is something wrong with that game folder, or avast is reporting a false positive and blocking the game from running.

So, try verifying the game cache.
If that doesn't work, try starting it up with avast disabled. If that does work, you've identified the problem is avast, not the game.
In which case, you need to check avasts settings to get it to allow the file it is blocking. or switch to a different antivirus program.

I used to use avast, but switched after it gave too many false positives.

Turns out it was avast in my case... everytime I was trying to run portal it was moving the .exe to its vault or whatever!

I uninstalled avast last night and reinstalled this morning and I can play portal again :D

Like to know how it happened in the first place though!

Thanks.
