Can't get to the bottom of this problem, unless it's just my ISP.

PS3 online works fine, not really any lag/loss/choke/spikes of any sort.

BF2 online isn't too bad.

Steam games (Source/1.6/Promod)... Basically 60 loss, 0 loss, 60 loss, 0 loss. I can take 3 steps forwards then get chucked back 2.

If the server is empty, and i use rates of 10,000 20 20 it isn't too bad. But as soon as i use normal rates and if anyone is on the server it does the loss/choke/spike thing.

Have tried all sorts, reinstalled games, changed reg keys to stop throttling tcp ports, used a leatrix program.

Any other ideas?

What ISP are you on? What router are you using? Do you get it more at peak time?

This thread might get better answers in the networking forum.

Virgin Media (Awful i know)

It's through out the day, could be connected at 10mb, have 20ms but i would still get constant loss.

It's a Belkin router. No problems with any other game, just these few on Steam.

couple of things you can try:

1. Add an exception to your Anti Virus for this folder - \Steam\appcache
2. I add this reg tweak, it stops QOS for media streaming, in which windows reserves a large chunk of bandwidth for media streaming. Chances are you won't be running a media server on your pc whilst gaming.
* Open regedit
* Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile
* There will be an entry for network performance throttling, default value is 10; set it to FFFFFFFF hex (willl look like 0xFFFFFFFF to the right of the entry)
* Reboot

Worth a try :)
