Steam Link Stopped Working After VPN Installed

Hi everyone,
I used to use torgaurd no problem with my steam link. I installed PureVPN and all of a sudden the next time I try to use my steam link, it doesn't work.

I've tried everything I can think of to fix this and am now hoping you guys can help! I've tried uninstalling the VPN, restarting PC and network, disabling/deleting network adapters.

It was originally finding the PC and then just failing to connect, but now it won't even detect the PC at all :/

I'm on windows 10 with all the latest updates installed. My network runs off a Ubiquiti edgerouter lite, ubiquiti AP-AC Lite and a TP-Link switch. The PC is wired but the steam link is by wifi.

I've just logged into the unifi controller and it seems it can no longer detect devices that are connected to the network. It doesn't even think my access point is connected, yet I can use it :/

SOLVED (mostly)

So the VPN switched my network connection from private to public. Told windows to allow network discovery on my network again and now the steam link works. My god that was a pain in the ass to uncover.

Have I created a safety risk?

My unifi controller still cannot find my AP even though it works fine. I managed to update the firmwire directly and get it all back up and running via the mobile ap. Controller is a no go though.

Which router you are using ? I've setup it on my DD-WRT router ?

So I made a typo that might change your answer I meant to say I switched from public to private.

I'm using a ubiquity edgerouter lite. I used to be able to see the AP, it only recently disappeared.

Didn't contact purevpn since I expected they'd probably say not their problem or just not know. My only issue now appears to be with my controller not picking up my AP.

I even reset the AP and SSH into it to reinstall the firmware. Still couldn't be found! It does at least transmit and work ok.

Random question, if I have a VPN set up and can access my gaming rig at home, should I theoretically be able to use steam link anywhere using the VPN connection?
