Steam Machine Beta- who is signing up

Cliff notes version:

You sign up for the beta program, then 300 people will be picked to get a Steam (box) Machine to test. There is already over 140k people on there so odds are slim.

To qualify you have to:

Agree to some terms.
Register on a community page.
Create a profile for yourself
Have 10 friends (on steam)
Play a game with a control pad in big screen mode

To be fair is it not being aim at a more casual gamer as well? Might be interesting to see console gamers opinions on this.

I was torn as to where to put it, however as I am mainly a Console Gamer and my incentive is it is a living room device so I thought here was a good place.

There's also an argument for it being in the Linux section but I thought it was more relevant here.

By the way consensus is today's announcement will be a control pad of some sort

That would be disappointing, not sure why they'd save the pad for last. Many hoped it would be Half Life 3 but I'm not silly enough to think that Valve might actually give us a game we want.

Well I can't argue with that, but most people have a PC they can use to register. Control Pad may be more difficult.
