Anyone else had this message before?

warningfromsteam-1.jpg

When i tried to buy this game on STEAM via PAYPAL last week the transaction failed. So i tried again and it went through OK. I ended up being charged £59.98 for the game.

I contacted STEAM support , heard nothing for 6 days so in the meantime i put a dispute into PAYPAL.

Now STEAM seem to be getting arsy with me. They told me to stop the Paypal dispute and then i get this warning. It's as if it's my fault i was overcharged. Quite disappointed with STEAM support but I'm more worried about the above message i received. I have over £1000 worth of games in my STEAM account and it seems they can just block your access at a click of a button.

Oh , and i still haven't received my refund yet ...

Just contact steam, nothing we can do. Try phoning them.
More than likely an automated system, because people buy something and then get appeal to refund it.

This is why I hate steam, you are always in the wrong.

You were right to put in the dispute. Have the customer service people come back to you at all?

The only other thing I can suggest is to perhaps post on their forums.

Edit:

Perhaps they should fix paypal payments their end.

It's funny when people only realise this after something goes wrong.

You could lose your account if they think you're trying to scam them, you could lose it for cheating in games, for sharing it (if say it gets hacked), or if Valve goes down and saving their customers will be the least of their concerns (not that it would happen any time soon).

Digital Distribution is, in many ways, vulnerable to failing. It's worth keeping your game keys stashed somewhere in a folder, just in case.

"If the dispute is closed and the funds are released back to Steam, the game/item will be reactivated. However, if PayPal closes the dispute case by "Reversing the Payment", meaning they send the funds for the purchase back to you, the Steam account will be automatically locked and you will be restricted from purchasing, gifting, trading, CD Key activation, and Steam Community access. Additionally, you will lose access to the disputed game/item.

If you are having any issues or technical difficulties with your recent purchase, please close the dispute and reply to this ticket with a full description of the issue so we can assist you directly once the dispute with PayPal has been dropped. We are not able to do anything further with your account while a PayPal dispute is still pending. Please remedy this issue with PayPal so we can continue to resolve any issues with this Steam Account.

In the United States you can reach them at 888-221-1161 or contact them through the PayPal Help Center from anywhere in the world.

It's a lot of hassle , all i want is my refund and my STEAM account back.

This is the problem with using a payment method that is so easily abused by scammers. Companies have to go out of their way to protect themselves from it.

State to them that there was an error whilst processing the payment with Paypal and you need to gain access back to your account so you can re-purchase the game with an alternate payment method, and then state that after it's completed you would like a refund back of the original paypal payment which wasn't correctly processed.

Basically I've closed my Paypal dispute. I've just reformatted my PC 2 days ago and now i can't restore any of my backed up STEAM games.

Just wait and see what happens now with STEAM customer support.

Paypal is fine in certain circumstances, however if the option to buy direct and not paypal then do it that way :)

:( I have been using paypal with all my games lol. I have seen these stories before and they only seem to happen when you put in a paypal dispute. I would have given steam upto 14 days to answer my emails before putting in a dispute anyway to be honest. Some people just do it straight away. Which is right of course but Steam does not seem to like it at all.

it's not right, PayPal dispute is the last course of action, you should trysorting everything. Out with company, ebayer user or whatever first.

Of course Steam hate it, you get the game and they don't get the money. Hence the precautions, should have contacted steam first, rather than straight to last resort.

Never had an problem with Steam and Paypal and been using it since 2008.

But you should never charge back or open a dispute with Paypal for Steam purchases, that was your first mistake. A little research would had shown that was going to be a bad idea.

Steam Support and their policy on this sucks through.
