This is a nice idea, but you can play Quake 3 for free at Quakelive, in your web browser, at 125fps, it has all the old maps, everything, and you can always get a game, there's loads of people playing.

As someone said it really is the purest form of skilled fps, I'd really recommend it, especially as it's free

Quake 4 was really under rated I thought. Really enjoyed it, for single player anyway.

All the e-sports purists got in a huff because it was a decent single player game instead of a sequel to Q3 online.

I really enjoyed the sp, except for the vehicle bits.

It a pain to get some the old quake games to work with window 7...
You have to find & download different fixes to get them to work.
And even then they don't work perfect..

Is there any ezQuake/nQuake style optimisation for online play for Q2? That would be the clincher for me really, but I've looked before with no joy.

^^There's nothing remotely like ezquake/nquake for Q2 from what I can see. There are updated client mods but when it comes to customisation Quakeworld is ahead of every FPS out there (and that's according to clanmates of mine who actively play more modern games e.g. one is on the UK QuakeLive team).

The Steam version of Q2 is working fine on Win 7 64 for me and the mod installed fine.
It's great because it only takes about five seconds to load!
