I've spent about 20hrs downloading Titan Quest at ~40kbps, and it's been on 100% for the last 2 1/2 hours. There's no other information whatsoever - no data volume, no estimated time, nothing. How hard can it be?

That might have been a better idea before resetting Steam. Why did you have to post second?

Lesson to self: Don't do the first thing suggested on a forum.

Lesson number two: Throwing a can of beer out the window in a rage is just wasteful.

Now I have to go retrieve a can of beer before my dogs chew it.

Its not the same 0% its 0% of the remaining. Dont worry you have not lost what you already downloaded.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? However, it's up to 3% in the last half an hour. This makes me angry. It would have been easier by far to pirate this game - do people really wonder why piracy's so rampant?

Have you set your Internet Connection Setting to the correct option in Steam?

Look under Settings/Options or whatever it is, make sure you've not got a slow connection type selected.

It shouldn't take long to download a game through Steam. It's always worked well for me in the past, and that was years ago - I can't imagine they've managed to make it worse.

I've rarely had any problems downloading from Steam, quite often I'm at the maximum speed for my connection. All I can suggest is checking that you have set your download region/connection speed correctly in the options.

i concur, its usually the users fault for not setting things up correctly

great argument !!! ''this doesnt work for me so pirating games is right !!!!''

/sigh ...

I downloaded Half Life 2 through Steam the other day on my uni connection in my office (legit reasons boss!), pulled it through at a consistent 6.4MB/s.

It's not terrible for all of us.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but while I'm not fluent, I'm at least literate enough to know when I've cocked up. I've gone through Company of Heroes & DoWII at 150k+, no problems, it's just this game that has given me issues.

That isn't what he said.

It's really not. I used to pirate games when I was at uni, but now that I work for a living there's no reason for me not to go legit. At no point in this thread have I expressed views on the validity of piracy. There's a phrase you're bound to hear if you ever work in a lab, and it's a good one to live your life by - "assumption is the mother of all ****-ups".

steam main pannel - View - bandwidth monitor

This is a lovely little part of Steam I've clearly glossed over in the week or so I've been using it. It's also helped me figure out that, indeed,

Its not the same 0% its 0% of the remaining.

Since it's a 2890Mb file, and 370Mb is roughly 25% of the 44% I had remaining when I validated the file that was still downloading at 100%. That's a lot of numbers, but thanks, that's helped a lot. If I knew you in real life Pogo, I'd hook you up with an escort girl.

Edit: Not as spurious as it sounds, a couple of my friends are escort girls in London. They're like hookers, but much more expensive, hotter, and with less crack.

Just downloaded SF4 at 1.2mbps so I doubt it's steam that's the problem.

Always been a very stable and effective platform for myself, as others have suggested perhaps you should look at your own connection and other things you may have running first.

you 'implied' that piracy would have solved your problems, why you felt the need to suggest this only you know... !

you state that the 'steam interface' needs to be sorted out !!! yet the thousands of customers/users seem to be able to get their head round it without the drama !!

you feel the need to come clean about previous piracy and tell us you now have a job !! whoopee doo !!!

look, im not having a 'go' at you but throwing a can of beer out of the window because some software didnt work ? come on, rattle and pram doesnt spring to mind ?

anyways i hope you have it all sorted, Titan Quest is a great game

o ! and by the way.

i love steam and have never ever had a problem with it.
