Got my new PC yesterday, with Win 10 on :D, so just on setting her up.

Regarding Steam, i'll be putting that back on tomorrow (ive already got the Steam Apps folders backed up ready), so what im going to do is, im going to put my, now old rig, back on tomorrow, and uninstall the games, that ive got on my Secondary drive on there (not the games ive got on my Windows drive), so that when i get Steam on my new rig, and made a new folder, on my new Secondary drive (which is a different drive letter), for those old Secondary drive games, i can reinstall them, and send them to it (when it asks where to), where i'll have already put the backed up Steam Apps folder, so it can just pick them up, and do its thing.

That sound about right ?

Now, regarding the ones on my old Windows drive, im pretty sure (although not 100%, as been a while), that when i did my, now old Win 7 rig, i didn't uninstall the games from my older one before that, as i didn't have a Secondary drive set up then, so my games, were just in the default Program Files (x86) folder, so all i did back then was, when i whacked Steam on, and copied the Steam Apps folder over, i just set the games away to Play, and it just picked up the files, and did its thing, before launching them.

That also sound about right ?

You don't need to uninstall the games. Just install the Steam Client on the new PC and point it at your saved folder and make that the default, then any missing and new games will get reinstalled there.

Sorry, im not following, ive got my games on 2x drives, which im going to be doing on my new rig also, when i get them on.

The games from my old Windows drive, im pretty sure i don't have to uninstall them, as they'll be going back into the same default, on my new Windows drive.

The games on my old Secondary drive, i want to put them, into my new Secondary drive, but thats a different drive letter, so the only way i can see to do it, is by uninstalling the games from my old Seconday drive (it won't take long to do, as ive not got many on there), and then when i get Steam on, i'll add the new Secondary drive, then i'll plonk the backed up SteamApps folder from my old Secondary, into it, once its done, and then i'll go to reinstall the games, so that when it asks where to, i can pick my new Secondary drive, and it should pick up all the files there, and just do its thing, will also work, yes ?

Put the folder from the old drive on the new drive and then add a new library folder and point it to that. Steam uses the .acf files in there to sort everything out.

How will i tell the games where the new folder is for them though ?

As my old Secondary drive, is an E: drive, so if i just go to Play any of those Secondary drive games, on my new rig, without uninstalling them from my old first, they are still going to be set for my old E: drive, so they wont work, my new Secondary drive, is a D: drive, so doing the above, uninstalling the games from my old first, and then setting up my new Secondary as a drive, once i get Steam on, and then going to reinstall the games, i'll be able to pick my new drive for them, and it will pick up all the files i plonked there, and just do its thing.

If it'll also work, if i just do it this way, then i'll just do it this way, as it wont take me long to do, so will it work this way ? :p

Yes, it will work the way you describe but you have to go through the rigmarole of installing everything one-by-one. My way it's just action for everything.

^This is over my head tbh (i am getting old :p)

Thanks for letting me know though, that my way will also work :), and the games shouldn't need long to do (as ive only got 12 of em on there), as when i go to do them, and tell them to go to my new drive, when it goes to do them, it'll just see all the files there, and just do, whatever it has to do. :D

Luckily as well, ive completed all the games, so i don't need any saves, as i'll just be going through them again from the start, when i want to play them again, so i'll only have to set the gfx/res options up again :p

Hang on, i think my brains just clicked. :D

When i get Steam on my new rig, will it have my old E: drive still listed, and set as a DEFAULT, like in your shot above ? (im guessing it will)

Then if so, will all i have to do is, once i get my new drive on there, and the files over to it, make that new drive the DEFAULT (instead of the old E: ), and then when i just go to play the games (so there is no need to uninstall them first from my old, as you say), it'll just use my new drive instead (as it'll now be the DEFAULT), see the files, do whatever it needs to do ?

You can have your games shared across however many drives you want. My steam collection is over 3 drives

Just let steam know the locations

so the above is right, when i get Steam on, i make my new drive the DEFAULT, and it will use it, so no, there is no need to uninstall the games from my old first ?

Correcto Mundo :D

just make sure you point steam to the correct sub directory if that makes sense.

YAY! Thanks all :D

All im going to do, is make a new folder on my new drive called Steam Games, to which i'll plonk my backed up SteamApps folder into, then when i get Steam on, i'll add a new folder, and make it this new Steam Games one, then i'll set it as the DEFAULT one, and go to play the games, where it should just use that drive now, and see my files already there, and do its thang :p

EDIT:

Once ive got it sorted, before i go play em, i might do the ole Verify Integrity jobbie on em first :D

Well shes on, so im now copying the folders over :)

Noticed when i made the new folder, the old one wasn't there still, and it has the new C: folder one it created, set as the DEFAULT, so once i get my old C: games across into that one as well, and switch the DEFAULT over from it, to my new Secondary drive, those games still on my C: drive, will still work, yes ?

Just want to double-check :p

EDIT:

All my games are saying install, so will i have to select install, on all the games on my C: drive first, so it can do its thing, before i can switch the DEFAULT from it, over to my secondary, then i can do those, or, when i go to install, it'll ask where to, and i can just select the C: drive for those ones, and vice versa for the secondarys ?

Although, will i need to change the DEFAULT, from my C: drive, as doesn't that just mean, where Steam is, and its on that drive ?, as its still going to ask, where i want to send my games to isn't it, now that ive got another drive set up ?

I think, when i added a seconded drive to my old rig, i didn't do anything with the DEFAULT, so my old C:, would have still been set as it, its just been that long, im not 100% :p

Make sure you backup the .acf files otherwise you need to redownload every single game again ;)

Yeah ive got all them, i copied everything from inside the steamapps folders, ive got my old secondary drive games across, just on with the old Windows ones now, over 700GB , so still a bit to go :p

Well, i finally got all my games copied back over, so will be testing soon. :)

I had to start the copy again though, as half way through, when the time went to copy, to over a day , i remembered, that when id copied them all over to my external, i done them in batches, so i had to cancel and start again, to do in batches, DOH! :D

Well all seems fine, just been playing a bit of Last Lighty, even got the Advanced Physx on, now that im on Nvidia, and its still bloody beltin! :D

Thanks again all :)
