I bought a couple of games a while ago including Supreme Commander 2 from a retailer which no longer exists, when I try to activate the game it says that the CD key has already been used. Square Enix support is useless and says they can't do anything, they won't accept any responsibility for the terrible activation system they have chosen to use.

Is there any easy way to bypass this activation?

You were probably sold an already sold game and used key, most likely it's the fault of the company who sold it to you.

Open ticket with Steam support.

At some point they will ask you to upload a photo of the serial number, then they'll give you a unique code to write somewhere around the serial number and send a photo of that. Then they should add the game to your account. You have to go through a similar process to recover stolen Steam accounts.

Although its not common, it's not usual for duplicate serial numbers to be issued by games companies.

Steam are being just as unhelpful. They are actually being insulting by telling me to take it back to the retailer.

Looks like I'll have to use a keygen.

Supreme Commander 2 isn't tied to steam though, can you not just install the game from the disk.

Edit, i must have thought Supreme Commander first one.
