Howzit guys.

I have just installed steam. Registered my account. However when I click on the Steam icon, it tries to connect, then says:

Cannot connect to Steam Network.

There might be a problem with your Internet connection or the Steam service.
Please go to: www.steampowered.com for more info.

I went to the website and it mentioned something about ports being forawrd on the router...but I can't seem to find out how to do that.

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks all!

Shouldn't really need to forward any ports. Mine has always worked fine behind a NAT router.

Have you got PeerGuardian running by any chance?

No, I haven't got that running.

Erm, I copied my friends steam folder to my PC as his one was the updated one. Then I just entered my user name and password.

Could this have anything to do with it?

I really want to login now! :(

Thanks for the reply!

Port forwarding is easy... just go to www.portforward.com and specify your router make and Steam, and you'll see step-by-step instructions.

Other things to check... have you got a software firewall running on your PC? Have you created a rule in that to allow Steam's traffic out?

Lastly, what happens if you install a fresh version of the client instead of copying it over from another machine?

Hi,

1. I have been to that website and it wants me to buy the program. :(
2. I turned off my firewall just incase it was that - no change.
3. How can I install just steam? Do I have to reinstall all the games I got as well (HL 2 ect?)

Sorry, new to this Steam thing. :(

Just reinstalled Steam.

When I open it up, it tries to update...then says:

"Cannont contact the steam network, please try later."
:(:(

Okay another problem.

I have HL2 and CS installed. However when I try activate the game on steam is says I must Install it first??

Any ideas/

Thanks all!
